Caution! Before working with the engine running, set the lever to the "P" position and pull the handbrake.
Check the switching mechanism
At selector lever positions "S", "D", "R" and the Tiptronic starter cannot be started. At speeds above 5 km/h and the control lever position "N", the electromagnet for locking the gearbox control lever should not snap into place and lock the lever. The selector lever can be set to one of the automatic transmission gears. At speeds below 5 km/h (almost a stop) and setting the "N" lever position, the electromagnet for locking the gearbox control lever should only click into place after approx. 1 sec. The selector lever can only be moved to the "N" position when the brake pedal is pressed.
The selector lever is in position "P", the button on the selector lever is pressed and the ignition is on
The brake pedal is not pressed. The selector lever is locked when the button is pressed and cannot be moved from the "P" position. The solenoid for locking the gearbox control lever locks the control lever. The brake pedal is pressed. The solenoid for locking the gearbox control lever releases the control lever. The gear can be set for movement. Slowly shift the lever from the "P" position through "R, N, D, S"; while doing this, check whether the control lever position indicator on the instrument panel corresponds to the position of the control lever.
The selector lever is in the "N" position, the button on the selector lever is pressed and the ignition is on
The brake pedal is not pressed. The control lever is locked and cannot be shifted from the "N" position. The solenoid for locking the gearbox control lever locks the control lever. The brake pedal is pressed. The solenoid for locking the gearbox control lever releases the control lever. The gear can be set for driving.
Note: Shifting from position "N" to "0" with the brake pedal applied is possible even without pressing the button on the selector lever. Shifting from position "N" to "B" is only possible by pressing the button on the selector lever.
Selector lever in position "D", ignition on
The selector lever does not unlock and does not move from position "D" to position "S". The button on the selector lever is pressed. The selector lever unlocks and moves from position "D" to position "B".
Selector in position "D", ignition and lights on
Install the selector in the Tiptronic slot. The "O" illumination in the gear selector illumination lamp "L101" should go out, and the "+" and symbols should light up. The selector lever position indicator "Y6" in the instrument panel insert changes from "P RND S" to "P RND S" when the selector lever is moved to the tiptronic slot "7 6 5 4 3 2 1". Selector lever in the tiptronic track, switch to and "-". Selector lever position indicator "7 6 5 4 3 21" in the instrument panel insert when switching the selector lever to V or should change to a higher or lower gear (respectively). If the shift mechanism does not function as described: Check and install the control lever drive cable.
Selector lever position indicator
If all segments of the selector lever position indicator light up, the gearbox is operating in emergency mode.
Check the selector lever cable adjustment
With the button pressed, move the selector lever from position "P" approx. 5 mm back and hold it, without switching to position "R". Release the selector lever. The selector lever should return to position "P" on its own. If this does not happen, adjust the shift mechanism. Move the selector lever to position "N". With the button pressed, move the selector lever from position "N" approx. 5 mm back and hold it, without switching to position "D". Release the selector lever. The selector lever should return to position "N" on its own. If this does not happen, adjust the shift mechanism. With the button pressed, move the selector lever from position "H" approx. 5 mm forward and hold it, without switching to position "R". Release the selector lever. The selector lever should return to position "N" on its own. If this does not happen, adjust the shift mechanism.
Adjust the gear selector cable
Always adjust the gear selector cable if: The selector lever cable has been removed from the gearbox. The engine or gearbox has been removed and installed. The component support parts have been removed and installed. The engine/gearbox position has been changed, e.g. during a loose installation. Remove the air filter. Inspect that the lock washer "see arrow" is installed correctly and locked downwards.

Note: The lock washer "see arrow" is replaced after removal.
Shift the control lever from "P" to "S". Check the gear selector cable boot at the front of the shift mechanism for damage. If damaged, replace the gear selector cable. The shift mechanism and gear selector cable should move easily when shifting. If not, replace the shift mechanism.
Adjustment
Shift the selector lever in the car to position "P". Turn off the ignition. Loosen the screw "see arrow".

Note: When the screw "see arrow" is loosened, the selector lever of the gearshift mechanism must remain in the "P" position. Otherwise, the adjustment is incorrect.
Set the gearshift lever on the gearbox to the "P" position. To do this, press the gearshift lever in the "direction of the arrow" towards the cable support.

The figure shows the CP "from behind". The "P" position is in the direction of the cable support.

Turn the front wheels in one direction, for example, move the car forward so that the parking lock in the gearbox engages with the parking lock gear. If the front wheels do not turn simultaneously in one direction, the parking lock is activated. Carefully and lightly move the selector lever forward and backward, without switching the lever to another selector lever position.
Note: This sets the selector cable to the optimum position.
Tighten the screw "see arrow" on the gear selection cable without jerking to the specified torque.
Note: When tightening the screw "see arrow", make sure that the gear selector cable does not move.
Install the air filter. Check the switching mechanism.
Checking the ignition key removal lock
To reach the "Ignition on" position, turn the key slightly to the right (do not start the engine). Press and hold the brake pedal. The selector lever must shift from position "P" without sticking when the lock button on the selector handle is pressed. Switch off the ignition. The key cannot be removed from the ignition switch in any control lever position except position "P". Set the selector lever to position "P". Remove the ignition key. Remove the key from the ignition switch only when the control lever is in position "P". The selector lever cannot be moved from position "P" when the button is pressed and the brake pedal is depressed. If the ignition key removal lock does not work as described: Check and adjust the control lever cable. Check the vehicle using the Guided Fault Finding function.
