General description
1. On advanced models, an engine oil cooler may be fitted to keep the oil at operating temperature when the engine is running under severe operating conditions. The cooler is mounted on the right side of the radiator, and is connected to the engine with two rubber hoses. The supply hose is attached to the timing chain cover, just above the oil pump outlet, and the return hose is attached to the front of the cylinder block, just to the right of the oil filter.
Removing
2. Place a suitable container under the cooler couplers on the cylinder block. Loosen and remove the banjo bolts, noting the location of the sealing washers that are installed on both sides of each coupler. The washers must be replaced.
3. Wait for the oil to drain from the cooler hoses into a container, then plug the ends of the hoses and holes in the cylinder block to prevent dirt from entering the lubrication system.
4. Loosen and remove the mounting bolt and remove the engine oil cooler from the engine compartment.
Installation
5. Install in reverse order, place new sealing washers on each side of the couplers and tighten all bolts securely. Finally, top up the oil level, then run the engine briefly to fill the oil cooler with oil, and check the oil level again.
