Attention! See warning at the beginning of Section System design, description of individual components and mechanisms.
Models without ABS
1. If it is necessary to disconnect the hydraulic pipe or hose, take measures against excessive loss of brake fluid. Remove the cover of the GTZ tank, put a plastic film under it and screw it tightly again - now a sufficiently reliable sealing of the tank will be ensured and the vacuum created in it when the liquid exits will not allow its level to drop excessively. Alternatively, the hydraulic hose closest to the union to be disconnected can be clamped with a special clamp. The open ends of rigid hydraulic pipes/fittings can be plugged immediately after disconnection to prevent dirt from entering the system. To collect spilled liquid, place a rag under the connection to be disconnected.
2. If it is necessary to disconnect the flexible brake hose, before removing the spring clamp securing it in its bracket, loosen the union nut of the union junction of the hose with a rigid tube.
3. It is best to give the flare nuts of the union connections with a special wrench of a suitable size - ask in car accessories stores. In the absence of a special key at hand, you can use an open-end wrench that fits snugly on the slots of the nut, however, if the nut is tightened tight enough, this method is associated with the risk of rounding its corners as a result of key breaks. In this case, you should try to release the nut using a self-locking rebar wrench (swedish). In case of damage to the splines, the nut must be replaced as an assembly with its tube. Always clean the outside of the union thoroughly before breaking apart to prevent dirt from entering the system. When disconnecting more than one connection, try to remember exactly the installation order of the removed sections.
4. Replaceable brake pipes of various lengths with flared ends and fitted union nuts can be purchased at Skoda service centers. Picking up a section of the required length (corresponding removed) it remains only to give it the desired shape for proper placement on the car. Alternatively, the brake lines can be custom made in a car service shop from kit parts. It is only necessary to accurately measure the length of the original removed from the car. It would be best to take the old pipe with you to the store or workshop.
5. When installing, do not tighten the union nuts too tight - the tightness of the connection is not at all proportional to the tightening force of its components, but is determined by the correct assembly.
6. Make sure that the brake pipes and hoses are routed correctly. Make sure that the lines are not twisted and are securely fastened in all provided brackets and intermediate clamps. Upon completion of the procedure, remove the plastic film from under the cap of the GTZ tank and bleed the brake system (see Section Bleeding the hydraulic system). Wash off any spilled brake fluid and check the system for signs of leaks.
ABS equipped models
Attention! On models equipped with ABS, be sure to disconnect the battery before disconnecting the hydraulic brake lines. Connect the battery only after connecting all the hydraulic lines of the brake path. Violation of this requirement is fraught with air entering the hydraulic modulator, the removal of which during normal system bleeding is not possible and requires the use of a special electronic tester (VAG 1552).
Follow the procedures described in paragraphs 1 to 6. If it becomes necessary to disconnect the brake pipe from the hydraulic modulator or GTZ, special care should be taken to immediately plug the open ends of the divided path to prevent air from entering inside. Before connecting the tubing, fill it (and fitting on the component) fresh brake fluid.
