Important: Pressing the -auto- button resets all settings that differ from the automatic operation mode. In the "ECON" mode, the air conditioner compressor is configured so that it supplies almost zero amount of coolant. The heating and ventilation system are also controlled electronically in this mode.
The operating mode of the air conditioning/Climatronic control and display unit "E87" with the Climatronic control unit "J255"
1 - Fan control knob; 2 - Outside air temperature gauge, if the vehicle speed drops below 15 km/h and if the coolant temperature is higher than 70°C, the displayed value will not change. Therefore, the actual measured outside air temperature is not displayed, since at low speeds its measurement could be inaccurate due to radiant heat from the engine.; 3 - Fan stage indicator; 4 - Indicator when the vehicle's diagnostic, measuring and information system is connected; 5 - Windshield defrost indicator; 6 - Air recirculation mode indicator; 7 - Air flow direction indicator; 8 - Indicator of the selected air temperature inside the car, switching from degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit and vice versa: - press the -econ- "12" button and then press the -auto- "16" button, the display will show the corresponding unit of temperature measurement.; 9 - Rotary knob for adjusting the air temperature inside the vehicle; 10 - Fresh/circulated air button; 11 - Operating mode indicator; 12 - Push button -econ-, by pressing the -econ- button the air conditioning compressor is set in such a way that it supplies almost zero amount of coolant, the heating and ventilation system are also regulated electronically in this mode; 13 - Push button for air flow to the head area; 14 - Push button for air flow to the upper body; 15 - Push button for air flow into the footwell; 16 - Push button -auto-, after pressing the push button -auto- the Climatronic device automatically maintains the selected air temperature in the body (cabin), the temperature of the inlet and outlet air, the fan speed and air distribution change automatically.; 17 - Instrument cluster temperature sensor "G56" and temperature sensor fan "V42"; 18 - Push button for defrosting the windshield
Important: If the instrument cluster temperature sensor "G56" or the fan temperature sensor "V42" fails, the air conditioning/Climatronic control and display unit "E87" must be replaced.
Removal and installation the air conditioning/Climatronic control and display unit "E87" with the Climatronic control unit "J255"
Important: The Climatronic control unit - J255- and the air conditioning/Climatronic control and display unit "E87" form one non-disassemblable part.
Remove the key from the ignition and turn off all electrical consumers. Remove the center section of the instrument panel "3". Unscrew the screws "4" (1 Nm) to release the air conditioning control unit from the instrument panel towards you.
Disconnect plug connector "2". Installation is carried out in the reverse order of actions. In this case, it is necessary to follow the following instructions: If the air conditioner control device has been changed, it must be installed in its original position.
