Important: Adjustment work on the toothed drive belt may only be carried out when the engine is cold. When turning the camshaft, the crankshaft must not be at TDC with any piston. This could cause damage to the valves and pistons.

Turn the camshaft pulley in the slots clockwise "arrow" until it stops.

Important: The camshaft drive gear must still be able to turn on the hub, but it must not be tilted.

The camshaft is locked with a "3359" or "MP1-301" locking pin. The crankshaft is locked with a "T10050" locking device. The tension roller is secured in a loose position with a lock nut.

Check the correct insertion of the tensioner pulley catch into the hole in the rear timing belt protective cover "arrow". Fit the timing belt onto the timing belt pulley on the crankshaft, the tensioner pulley, the camshaft drive gear, and finally the coolant pump pulley. Install the timing belt guide roller. After removing the locking tool "T10265" from the tension roller, loosen the locking nut of the latter. Turn the tension roller eccentric with the socket wrench "T10264" clockwise "arrow" so that the pointer "2" is in the middle of the gap in the main plate.

Important: Make sure that the tension roller lock nut does not turn.

While holding the tension roller in this position, tighten the lock nut "1" of the tension roller with a torque of 20 Nm + turn an additional 45° (1/8 turn).

While holding the tension roller in this…

Important: When tightening the lock nut, the "arrow" indicator rotates a maximum of 5 mm to the right from the slot in the main plate. This position cannot be corrected, since the toothed drive belt is set into its position during the running-in period.

After placing the counter support "T10172" on the camshaft pulley according to the image and applying pressure in the direction of the "arrow", the camshaft pulley should be kept pre-tensioned. Tighten the camshaft drive gear (pulley) mounting screws "1" to a torque of 20 Nm + an additional 1/8 turn (45°). Remove the locking pin "MP1-301 (3359)" and the locking device "T10050".

Checking the valve timing distribution

Turn the crankshaft 2 revolutions in the direction of rotation of the engine shaft so that the crankshaft is again a short distance before TDC of the 1st cylinder.

Important: The pin of the T10050 locking device must enter the locked position in the flange sealing gasket. (The locking device can be placed on the toothed drive belt pulley only just before TDC.). If the crankshaft is located beyond the TDC of the piston of the 1st cylinder and the pin of the locking device has not entered the fixed position in the flange sealing gasket, then it is necessary to turn the crankshaft back 1/4 turn, and again adjust the crankshaft to the TDC of the piston of the 1st cylinder in the direction of rotation of the engine shaft. It is not permissible to make adjustments by turning against the direction of rotation of the motor shaft to enable insertion of the locking device.

Lock the hub with the "3359" or "MP1-301" locking pin to prevent rotation in the direction of engine shaft rotation. Ensure the crankshaft can be locked with the "T10050" locking device; the tension roller indicator is centered or a maximum of 5 mm to the right of the main plate gap.

In case the crankshaft cannot be locked

(Material is available on the website www.SkodaBook.ru)

Loosen the camshaft drive gear "arrow" screws. Turn the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine shaft until the crankshaft can be locked using the T10050 locking device.

Important: If the crankshaft has turned to a position behind the TDC of the 1st cylinder, then the crankshaft should be returned a little back and then turned again in the direction of rotation of the engine shaft to the TDC of the 1st cylinder.

Important: If the crankshaft has turned to a…

Tighten the pulley screws (drive gear) of the camshaft "arrow": apply a tightening torque of 20 Nm + turn an additional 1/8 turn (45°). Remove the locking pin "3359" or "MP1-301" and the locking tool "T10050". Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation for not two revolutions so that the crankshaft returns to the TDC position of the 1st cylinder. Repeat the check of the valve timing distribution. Installation is carried out in a similar manner, in the reverse order of actions.

Tighten the pulley screws (drive gear) of the…
