Remove the upper engine cover. Before disconnecting the battery in vehicles with a car radio equipped with an anti-theft jamming code, you must know this code. With the ignition off, disconnect the wire connecting the battery terminal to the ground (body) of the vehicle. Remove the air filter. Remove the battery and battery holder. Remove the retaining ring "arrow 1" of the gearshift cable from gearshift lever "A". Remove the retaining ring "arrow 2" of the preselective shift control cable from the preselector guide lever "B". Remove the preselective shift control cable and the gearshift cable from the journals. After removing the retaining ring "arrow 3" from the preselector guide lever "B", remove the preselector guide lever. Remove gear shift lever "A" by unscrewing nut "arrow 4".

Remove the flexible roller counter support (bowden cables) "arrows." Then attach the gear shift cable and the cable for the pre-selective gear shift control device at the top.

From holder "B" on the gearbox, remove pipe and hose assembly "A". After removing the clutch release cylinder "arrows", secure it with wire. Do not disconnect the wire.
Important: Do not depress the clutch pedal.
Cars with gasoline engines
Disconnect the "arrow" connector from the speedometer sensor "G22" (if installed).

Cars with diesel engines
Disconnect the "arrow" connector from the speedometer sensor "G22" (if installed).

Continued for all vehicles
Remove the ground wire (housing) from the bolt connecting the engine and gearbox "1". Disconnect the plug connector "2".

Remove the starter wire to ground (housing) "3". Set all electrical wires aside. Remove the upper bolts connecting the gearbox to the engine. Unscrew the top starter mounting screw.

Install the securing suspension device.

Important: When installing the suspension hooks, be careful not to damage the hoses and wires near the engine eyes.
Using the lead screw (spindle), apply slight pre-stress to the engine-gearbox assembly. Remove the "arrow" mounting screws from the gearbox bearing. After removing the left front wheel, lift the car. Remove the lower engine cover. Remove the wheel arch (fender) liner of the left front wheel.

Disconnect plug connector "1" from the reverse switch. Having unscrewed the "arrow" from the gearbox, the mounting bracket "2", put it aside together with the wires. Remove the starter. Remove the front part of the exhaust pipe.

Unscrew the protective sheet of the "arrow" (if installed) for the inner protective cuff of the right cardan shaft. Remove the cardan shafts from the flange shafts; turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.

Unscrew bolts "1". Unscrew stabilizer link "2" "arrow". Swing out the wheel hub bearing cover outward and guide the driveshaft into the wheel arch and secure it. wire to the shock absorber strut. Secure the right propeller shaft as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the paintwork on the drive shaft.

Unscrew the swing support "arrow".
For vehicles with 1.4 l/63 kW, 1.6 l/77 kW and 1.4 l/51 kW TDIPD engines
Drain the coolant.

Having pulled out the clamp "3" as far as it will go, disconnect the hose with the drain cock from the radiator (fasten the hose, for example. wire so that it does not interfere during further removal of the gearbox). Disconnect the plug connector "2".

Important: Unscrew the air conditioner pipe holder (if available in the equipment) from the fan bracket.
After unscrewing the "arrow" screws, remove the fan holder in a downward direction.
Continued for all vehicles
Remove gearbox bracket "A" from the gearbox.

Remove the gearbox bracket "arrow" mounting screws as follows. Lower the engine-gearbox unit through the lead screw to such an extent as to open access to the bolts securing the gearbox bracket "A" from the left wheel arch.

Important: When lowering the unit, with the engine-gearbox in gear, make sure that the gearbox does not touch the axle suspension mounting beam.
Remove the bolt connecting the engine and gearbox above the right flange shaft. Install the gearbox mounting fixture into the engine and gearbox removal and installation device. Assemble, using the technology described below, a device for removing and installing the engine and gearbox with a device for fastening the gearbox, an installation plate for the "02T" gearbox and fastening elements. Place the mounting plate on the transmission mounting fixture (mounting plate that can be installed in only one position). Adjust the position of the gearbox mounting device arms to the holes in the mounting plate. Screw in the fastening elements "A" according to the marks on the mounting plate.

Place the engine and gearbox removal and installation device under the vehicle, with the arrow symbol "B" on the mounting plate pointing in the direction of vehicle travel. With the mounting plate aligned parallel to the gearbox, secure the retaining clips. Remove the lower mounting bolts connecting the engine and gearbox. Having pressed the gearbox away from the engine, move it towards the suspension mounting beam.

For vehicles with 1.4/51 kW engine
When lowering the gearbox, remove the inserted "arrow" spacer, if necessary.
Continued for all vehicles
Push the engine forward (second mechanic). Carefully lower the gearbox. Adjust the console on the sliding part using the clamp. Number of visible holes = 5. Lift the gearbox using a shop crane. Place the gearbox aside, e.g. on a transport pallet. During lowering, change the position of the gearbox using the lead screws of the gearbox mounting device.

Bolt the transport device to the clutch housing.

Adjust the console on the sliding part using the clamp. Number of visible holes - 5. Raise the gearbox using a shop crane.

Installation
Before starting installation, unscrew the transmission oil level check plug and add transmission oil. The gearbox is installed in the reverse order of actions. Ensure that the unit is installed in the vehicle without pre-tensioning. Retaining rings "2" and "3" should be replaced after each removal. After installation, the gearbox oil level should be checked.

Important: After cleaning the splines on the drive shaft, lightly lubricate them with grease -G 000 100-. The clutch disc must move freely on the drive shaft. When replacing the gearbox, ensure that the intermediate sheet is installed correctly (embedded spacer) between the engine and the gearbox. Check the presence of centering bushings in the cylinder block for centering the gearbox; if necessary, invest them. After disconnecting and then reconnecting the wire connecting the battery terminal to the ground (body) of the vehicle, some additional work must be performed. Check the geometry (kinematics) car.

Checking the gearbox oil level
Unscrew the threaded plug with a screwdriver for checking the transmission oil level "arrow". The oil level in the transmission is correct if the transmission is filled up to the edge of the filler hole with oil. Screw in the oil filler plug "arrow".

When refilling, the following instructions should be observed. Unscrew the threaded plug "arrow" of the oil filler hole. Pour transmission oil up to the lower edge of the oil filler hole. Screw in the "arrow" screw plug. Start the engine, engage gear, and crank the transmission for about 2 minutes. After stopping the engine, unscrew the "arrow" screw plug and add transmission fluid up to the bottom edge of the oil filler hole. Screw in the threaded plug "arrow".
