Using a lever motion, press the preselector lever "1" cable release away from the gearshift control shaft lever "3", e.g., with an open-end wrench "2". Press the locking tabs on the preselector lever "arrow" cable release support and pull the preselector lever cable release from its support on the gearbox.

Disconnect the cable tightening of the preselector lever "1" from the clamp "arrow" on the gearbox.

Remove the front part of the exhaust pipe with the holder. Remove the right and left protective plates from the underbody of the "arrow".

Remove the tunnel bridge (mounting bracket) under the exhaust pipe. Disconnect the rear section of the exhaust pipe so that it does not touch the rear axle.

Remove the "arrow" screen.

Unscrew the "arrow" nuts. Remove the gearshift mechanism along with the preselector lever cable downwards, without bending or excessively kinking the preselector lever cable.
Important: The gear shift mechanism can also be replaced without the preselector lever cable tightening, which requires disconnecting the cable tightening from the gear shift mechanism
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of actions; in this case, the following instructions must be observed. Tightening torques for screws and nuts, as well as instructions on when to replace screws and nuts. Install the preselector lever cable into the support on the gearbox and carefully press it onto the gearshift shaft lever. Do not bend the gear shift control shaft lever, otherwise it will no longer be possible to adjust the gear shift accurately. Do not bend or over-flex the preselector lever cable. Attach the cable tensioner of the preselector lever "1" to the clamp "arrow" on the gearbox. When installing the preselector lever cable, maintain a distance of at least 5 mm from the ATF cooler. After installing the exhaust pipe, align it without internal stress.
Install the gear shift mechanism. Connect the wire connecting the battery terminal to the ground (body) of the vehicle. Adjust the cable tension of the preselector lever. Check the gear shift mechanism.
Checking the plug connectors on the gearshift mechanism
Before starting repair or inspection of connectors, it is necessary to determine as precisely as possible the cause of the malfunction using the VAS 5051 in the functions "guided fault finding", "automatic test (self-diagnosis) of the vehicle" and "measurement technology". Before inspecting connectors, check the fault memories of all control units in the vehicle and, if necessary, eliminate faults.
Plug connectors on the gear shift mechanism

- A - Two-pin plug connector to the preselector lever locking solenoid - N110-
- B - 10-pin plug connector of connecting wires between the gearshift mechanism and the automatic transmission control unit "J217"
- C - Ten-pin plug connector for gearshift housing
